Position: Direct Support Professional

 

Duties 

Under the direct supervision of the Residential Program Manager, and in accordance with established agency policies and procedures, principles of normalization and inclusion and licensure standards, the incumbent provides training and support to individuals served, utilizing available resources to maximize independence. 


Qualifications 

The incumbent must have a high school diploma or GED and previous experience working with persons with developmental disabilities. Additional education in a closely related field may be substituted for experience. The applicant must have a valid local driver’s license, 3 years of driving experience, and an acceptable driving record according to My Own Place policy. Must be able to transport individuals to and from day programs and various appointments. 


Related Factors: 

  • Must provide an annual medical statement completed by a licensed physician stating the employee is free of communicable disease and provide results of PPD or chest x-ray. 
  • Ability to transport consumers via public transportation and/or agency vehicle to community activities, day programs, work etc. 
  • Must be able to navigate steps, lift a minimum of 30lbs, and participate in walking and exercising for periods of up to 45 minutes with constituents 
  • Must attend meetings and successfully complete all mandatory training sessions 
  • Good oral and written communication skills 
  • Ability to work without close supervision and exercise good judgment 
  • OSH Classification I
